Your First Conversation
Starting a new conversation
Click New Conversation in the top left of the sidebar. A fresh conversation opens in the chat area, ready for your first message.
You can have as many conversations as you like. Each one maintains its own context, settings, and message history independently.
Sending a message
Type your message in the input box at the bottom of the screen. Press Enter to send, or Shift+Enter to add a new line without sending.
The AI will begin responding immediately. You’ll see the text stream in as it’s generated, so you don’t need to wait for the full response before reading.
Reading AI responses
Responses are rendered with full markdown formatting. This means:
- Code appears in highlighted code blocks with a copy button.
- Lists and tables are formatted for easy reading.
- Bold and italic text render as styled text, not raw asterisks.
- Images generated by the AI appear inline.
If the AI uses tools during a response (like searching the web or running code), you’ll see progress cards appear between messages showing what it’s doing.
Auto-generated titles
Magus automatically generates a title for each conversation based on your first few messages. You’ll see the title appear in the sidebar shortly after you start chatting. This makes it easier to find the conversation later.
Editing the title
If the auto-generated title isn’t quite right, you can change it:
- Hover over the conversation name in the sidebar.
- Click the pencil icon that appears.
- Type your new title and press Enter to save.
You can also rename a conversation from within the chat area by clicking the title in the header at the top of the conversation.
